Start with an inventory
List every item before asking for a truck. Record length, width and height for large pieces and use reliable weights where available. Photographs show shape and handling challenges, but they cannot establish weight. Include cartons, packaging and loose accessories. A rough description such as “a small move” can hide a heavy cabinet or an unusually long item.
Check space and payload separately
A load can run out of floor space before reaching the weight limit, or exceed a weight limit while appearing small. Vehicle names and tonnage classes are useful starting points, not loading permissions. Ask for the actual truck’s bed dimensions and permitted payload. Also explain which items cannot be stacked and what protection is required.
Consider the loading points
Look at where the vehicle can stop at both ends. Low clearance, narrow access and a long carry affect suitability even if everything fits on the truck. Check whether a loading bay, goods lift or forklift can be used. Share these constraints before the vehicle is assigned rather than discovering them at arrival.
Compare the complete job
A larger truck may avoid another trip, but only when it can access the site and handle the load safely. Ask the transport team to compare the practical options using your inventory. Confirm the vehicle, driver, assistance and route together. Do not choose purely by the lowest quoted vehicle size.
